Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and their use; in other words, how meaning is created and communicated. I worked with the basic concepts of icon, index, and symbol to interpret images and themes in a narrative, and created board books geared for the audience of 0-3-year-olds. The story I based the books on was The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson, and the theme I chose from the story was love. There are details of unrequited love added to the book covers, which is found in this version of the story (versus the well-known Disney one).
